Trade Statistics
The Corporation is a key participant in facilitating, managing and promoting trade.
The third largest container port in Australia, Brisbane is also the fastest growing. Drivers of this growth include the proximity of the port to Asian and other international markets, our focus on providing efficient transport networks and logistics options, the availability of warehousing and associated facilities adjacent to the wharves, and the commercial land available through reclamation projects.
A purpose-built port, the Port of Brisbane is not landlocked, and specific port user needs have been taken into consideration in designing the port.
The location of the port in the southeast corner of Queensland has also promoted record trade growth, as the geographical area serviced includes South East Queensland and northern New South Wales, the fastest-growing region in Australia.
Brisbane trade consists of a range of containerised, bulk and break-bulk cargoes. Brisbane is Australia’s leading beef and cotton port, handling about 50% of Australia’s total cotton and beef exports.
