Port Facilities

Motor Vehicle Precinct

The development of a dedicated Motor Vehicle Precinct at the Port of Brisbane forms part of the Corporation's overall strategy to relocate existing port facilities from Hamilton to port's facilities at the river mouth.

The first stage of this strategy was the development of the Motor Vehicle Precinct.  Located on a 28-hectare site between Whimbrel Street and Port Drive, the precinct is linked to the wharf area via a flyover bridge. This was constructed by the Corporation at no cost to industry.

To accommodate the changing space and storage requirements of the motor vehicle industry, a unique common-user area of more than 7 hectares has been designated within the Motor Vehicle Precinct. The remaining areas in the Motor Vehicle Precinct are leased to two independent providers of car processing facilities - PrixCar and Patrick Autocare.

The second part of the strategy involved Patrick moving from Berths 1-3 to Berths 7-9. The terminal area behind Berths 1-3 was redeveloped to cater for motor vehicles and general and break-bulk cargo.

Berths 1 and 2 have priority for motor vehicles, with Berth 3 available for break-bulk and general cargo. The management of this facility is undertaken by Australian Amalgamated Terminals (AAT), a joint venture between Patrick and DP World. These new arrangements allow greater access for third party operators to become involved in stevedoring and motor vehicle processing activities.
